Lama Speck-Weg-Tour im Winter (Gruppentour)

Hiking

Directly below the Schönecker Burgberg live our woolly llamas, who are definitely better equipped for a hike in winter than we humans are. This is also where our very special winter experience begins: Our Llama-Bacon-Path New Year's Tour. After getting to know our four-legged tour companions, we will set off. We hike through the wintry Eifel landscape, enjoying the crisp air and the tranquility radiated by our llamas.

Our seven-hour trek starts and ends directly below the ruins of Schönecken Castle. After a lively introduction, during which you will get to know the llamas, we set off on our tour to the nature reserve "Schönecker Schweiz". At the beginning, we hike down into the valley of the Altburgbach. Meadow orchards and the slender silhouettes of juniper bushes accompany us. Then we climb the ridge "Op Ischt" and enjoy the first views far beyond the plateau. A little later, we enter the beech forest and reach a hidden clearing where we take our first break.

First above, later along the Schalkenbach and the Kupferbach, we continue, right through the forest on narrow paths. Our goal is the enchanted Krausbuche in the district of Fleringen. In this place, there was already a court beech in the Middle Ages, just as gnarled and intertwined as today's beech. The Krausbuche is thought to be one of the very rare Süntelbuchen, also called serpent or cripple beech, witch or devil's wood. It grows out of clumpy dolomite rocks, its roots gripping tightly into the stone. The trunk, branches, and twigs are often twisted and intertwined, forming a canopy over the rocks with deeply hanging foliage. Many legends and stories revolve around this rare tree.

Near this magical place, we take a longer break before turning southwest again. For a short while, we wander through the fields of the ridge "Op Ischt" and then descend again into the beech forests. On a steep rocky spur high above the Altburg Valley lies the ancient Celtic refuge. It's easy to imagine why the Celts chose this secluded place as a retreat. Following the Altburgbach, we will return to our starting point after about seven hours. When we arrive, we must say goodbye to our loyal companions, the llamas.
