Winter hike

Our alpacas and llamas graze just below the Schönecken Castle on a traditional fruit orchard. There, we get to know the animals in a relaxed manner and make our first attempts at leading them in the pasture. Then our hiking adventure in the nature reserve "Schönecker Schweiz" begins!

Right at the beginning, we hike down into the valley of the Altburgbach. Traditional orchards and the slender silhouettes of juniper bushes accompany us. We follow the Altburgbach, whose bed winds through the forest in countless bends. 

Now a steep ascent awaits us: a narrow path winds up the slope. It leads us to a hidden ancient refuge, which towers high above the Altburgbach on steep rocks. Here, many centuries ago, Celts hid when it became too dangerous outside in the open plains. We take a break here for a while. Those who wish can explore the rocks. Surely we will also have plenty of time to take pictures with the alpacas and llamas. Then we hike back through the fields towards Schönecken.

Once back at the pasture, we unbuckle our loyal companions, the alpacas and llamas, and settle into our cozy, wood-fired trailer. Here we have a delicious soup, hearty Eifel specialties (cheese, sausage, bread), along with homemade mulled wine, (non-alcoholic) punch, and tea. We spend the afternoon relaxing this way.

What to bring: hiking shoes with a sturdy, non-slip profile sole, daypack, water bottle, rainproof clothing, headgear (depending on the season for sun, rain, or cold; no umbrellas)

Participants: at least 4 animal guides; maximum about 14 people

Requirements: Average fitness required (total distance approximately 8 km, pure hiking time approximately 2 hours, elevation difference 110 m), minimum age for leading an animal: 8 years. Participation under 18 years only in the company of an adult. Unfortunately, dogs cannot be brought along.
