Silent film concerts
The internationally acclaimed silent film concerts by Berlin pianist and composer Stephan Graf von Bothmer are far more than just classical film accompaniments. His modern, emotional compositions merge with the films to create intense works of art.
"Live film music is much more gripping and dramatic than any recording," says von Bothmer. "Silent films are like psychic archetypes - together with my music, they can move the primal ground of the soul." He inspires people of all generations.
Fritz Lang's cinematic milestone (1927) shows a city of the future in which the rich live in luxury while the workers toil deep underground - until disaster strikes.
Metropolis left its mark on film history and inspired works such as Blade Runner and Matrix. Thanks to Bothmer's live composition, the classic now seems as modern as current films.
With The Adventures of Prince Achmed, the first full-length animated film in history (1926, Lotte Reiniger) was created using the delicate silhouette technique.
It transports us into a world full of magic, adventure and love - visually inspired by Chinese shadow puppetry.
(Note: Not suitable for young children due to its length and demanding music).
"With our silent film concerts, we are not only celebrating our newly built organ," explains pastor Ilona Fritz, "but also showing that our church is a place of encounter - open to all people, regardless of faith, nationality or status."
Admission to the events is free, but seat reservations are requested at the church office: 06551/8285238 or pruem@ekir.de
The church youth will provide catering on both evenings. After the events, a voluntary collection is requested for parish and diaconal tasks.
