The Western Wall in the Schneifel

Oct 23, 2025

Guided Hike

A walk through history – The "Siegfried Line" on the Schneifel.
The Siegfried Line, also known as the Westwall by the Western Allies, was a military defense system distributed over approximately 630 km along the western border of the German Reich, consisting of over 18,000 bunkers, tunnels, as well as countless trenches and tank obstacles. It ran from Kleve at the Dutch border southward to the Swiss border. The installation was constructed by the Nazis between 1936 and 1940, who saw both a military and a propagandistic value in the project. Along the ridge of Schneifel, numerous blown-up bunkers are still visible along a hiking route of about 12 km. The tour requires surefootedness and mostly goes through dense coniferous forest. Difficulty level: "medium". Little elevation. Refreshment option: Blockhaus "Schwarzer Mann".
