Hike

The Schönecker Switzerland is a little-known but incredibly diverse nature reserve in the Southern Eifel. It is characterized by deeply carved valleys with clear streams and wide plateaus. Rare orchids bloom under slender junipers on the valley slopes. By the way, it owes its name to the gentian, which grows here just as it does in the Alps. In autumn, we are enchanted by the red-golden foliage. In winter, snow covers the forests and harvested fields.

Our two-hour gourmet hike begins and ends directly below the castle ruins of Schönecken. After an entertaining introduction where you get to know the llamas, we start our tour into the nature reserve "Schönecker Schweiz".

Right at the beginning, we descend into the valley of the Altburgbach. Orchard meadows and the dark silhouettes of juniper bushes accompany us. Then we climb the ridge "Op Ischt" and let our gaze wander all the way to the Hohen Venn. Shortly thereafter, we enter the beech forest and reach a hidden clearing where the gentian blooms in late summer. We follow the Schalkenbach down to the Nims and after about an hour of hiking, we arrive at the crêperie "Nice Corner", which is located directly on the riverbank. Here we can choose between delicious sweet and savory crêpes: Are you in the mood for a crêpe with chocolate and banana, or a crêpe with cheese and onions? Would you like a freshly baked waffle or even a delicious sausage? Would you like to drink cocoa, a soft drink, or coffee with it? Would you like to warm up with a (non-alcoholic) mulled wine or tea? You have the choice!

We sit together comfortably for about half an hour. Meanwhile, our llamas graze on the adjacent meadow. Then we head back up into the Schönecker Schweiz and to the castle ruins of Schönecken. After another hour of hiking, we return to our stable. Here we say goodbye to our loyal companions, the llamas.

To bring: Hiking shoes with firm, non-slip sole, day backpack, water bottle, rainproof clothing, headwear (depending on the season for sun, rain, or cold)

Participants: at least 4 full paying guests; maximum of about 18 people

Requirements: Average fitness required (total distance about 7 km, altitude difference 180 m), minimum age for leading an animal: 10 years. Participation under 18 years only in the company of an adult. Unfortunately, dogs cannot be brought along.
