Hike

The Gerolstein Local Chapter invites hiking enthusiasts from the Bleialf, Daun, Gerolstein, and Prüm local chapters to this year’s group hike.
Under the leadership of Hermann Michels, the Gerolstein Local Chapter has planned an interesting and varied tour. The hiking route runs mainly through the beautiful Gerolstein City Forest, located between Gerolstein and Büscheich. The hike also includes a climb to the “Dietzenley”—the highest point in the Gerolstein region—which features a Celtic fort. Climbing the observation tower there offers fantastic panoramic views of the surrounding Eifel landscape.
Bizarre rock faces are striking features of the “Heiligenstein” nature reserve. From the small “Burgblick” shelter, you’ll enjoy a beautiful view of the Kyll Valley.
You’ll then reach the lowest point of the hike: the “Löwenburg” castle ruins (Gerhardstein Castle).
The trail then continues uphill, past the newly built forest marble run, to the “Büschkapelle” chapel, and on back to the starting point of the hike in Büscheich.
Hike distance: approx. 11.5 km with 220 meters of elevation gain. Since there are no places to stop for refreshments along the way, it is recommended to bring a packed lunch.

10:00 a.m.: The hike begins at the community center in Gerolstein-Büscheich
(official address: Gerolstein, Büscheicher Str.). It is the first house on the left as you enter the village coming from Gerolstein.

After the approximately 4-hour hike, the Gerolstein local chapter invites everyone to a cozy wrap-up with coffee, cake, and cold drinks at the Büscheich community center. Non-hikers are also warmly invited to join.
Members of the Eifelverein and guests are warmly invited to participate in the group hike.
