The West Wall, referred to by the Western Allies as the "Siegfried Line," was one of the largest military defense systems in Europe. Spanning approximately 630 kilometers, it stretched along the then western border of the German Reich – from Kleve at the Dutch border to the Swiss border. Built by the Nazis between 1936 and 1940, the facility included more than 18,000 bunkers, tunnels, trenches, and tank obstacles. In addition to its military function, the West Wall also served as a significant propaganda tool.

On the Schneifel ridge, traces of this time are still visible today: Along an approximately 12-kilometer hiking trail, walkers encounter numerous blown-up bunkers that impressively tell the history of the region. The varied tour primarily leads through dense coniferous forest on narrow, natural paths. Sure-footedness is required, but larger inclines are hardly to be managed.

Requirements: The approximately 12 km long tour requires sure-footedness and mostly runs through dense coniferous forest on narrow, unpaved paths. Therefore, it is unfortunately not suitable for wheelchair users or strollers.
