Want to experience, understand, and get swept up in Faust? With a fresh take—yet with the utmost respect—we tackle Goethe’s Faust. Abuse of power, a historical #MeToo story, a medieval man in a midlife crisis, and a naive girl—or is it simply a tragic love story? A heavenly-hellish gamble? Marthe Schwertlein resolutely guides us through the action and tells her version of the story. Whether it’s the prelude in the theater, the prologue in heaven, “the crux of the matter,” the Easter stroll, the witches’ kitchen, vows of love, or a witches’ coven—it’s all here. We experience a zany panoply of characters and images, Euflisch-style rapid role changes—and at the same time, truly great poetry. So that in the end we can say:
Oh, so that’s how it was! It all makes sense now.

About the Knirps Theater:
Knirps brings theater to the audience—to places where professional theater performances aren’t a given. In schools, libraries, community centers—in rural areas, or even in socially disadvantaged urban centers. We perform for teenagers, children, and adults—
for many young people, this is their first encounter with theater. Our work is based on thorough research and a sense of responsibility
toward the themes, characters, and the audience. This gives rise to tongue-in-cheek parables—plays that address current issues and offer different perspectives—entertaining, thought-provoking, authentic, and accessible to the audience.
Beginnings: The theater was founded in Berlin in 1988. After two years of theater work in France, the company has been based in Rhineland-Palatinate as a touring theater since 1996. Guest performances throughout Germany, as well as tours in German-speaking countries abroad and in France.
