Lama-Abenteuer für Familien (individuell)

Enjoy a special family day with our llamas and have fun together. Spend time together in the wild Eifel countryside, unwind, and explore nature in harmony with the llamas and alpacas. Embark on an adventure together and discover new things: It strengthens the family bond and is fun for everyone!

Hike

We’ll welcome you at the entrance gate to the llama pasture. Our llamas and alpacas graze on a Steuobstwiese (traditional orchard meadow) right below Schönecken Castle.
After a brief welcome, you’ll get to know our llamas and alpacas better. The animals’ calm nature gives you plenty of time to do so. During an engaging introduction, you’ll learn interesting facts about the lives of llamas and how to interact with them. The llamas and alpacas are very patient and affectionate.
Out in the pasture, we’ll try our hand at leading them for the first time. Then our little hiking adventure begins right in the heart of the Schönecker Schweiz Nature Reserve.

Right at the start, we hike down into the Altburgbach valley. We follow the stream, whose bed winds through the forest in countless switchbacks. Along the way, our knowledgeable guide explains why there’s often no water here in the summer and what a sinkhole is. After a while, hidden among the mighty beech trunks, we discover a towering rock: perched atop it is an ancient refuge fortress. Here, a steep climb awaits us: a narrow path winds its way up the slope all the way to the cliff’s edge.

Many centuries ago, Celts took refuge in this refuge fortress when conditions out on the open plains became too dangerous. We’ll take a break here for a while. Anyone who’d like to can explore the rocks. We’ll certainly have plenty of time to take photos with the llamas or alpacas.

A little later, we reach the “Op Ischt” plateau and enjoy the sweeping view all the way to the High Fens. Starting in the spring, rare, protected plant species such as orchids grow at the edge of the plateau. Depending on the season, we’ll spot flowers, butterflies, edible herbs, or—in winter—traces of roe deer, martens, and other wildlife.
Once back at the pasture, we’ll have to say goodbye to our faithful companions, the llamas and alpacas.

What to bring: Hiking boots, daypack, water bottle, rainproof clothing, headwear (depending on the season—for sun, rain, or cold)

Participants: Exclusive, private event for a family of 2 adults and 2 children under 18 (base price)

Requirements: Average fitness level required (total distance approx. 6–8 km, elevation gain 110 m); minimum age for independently leading an animal: 14 years; younger children must always be accompanied by an adult. At least one child on this family tour must be under 18 years of age. Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed.
