Lamawanderung mit Gin-Tasting

The beautiful Prümer Land is home to llamas and the award-winning Euelsberger gin. A perfect reason to combine both in the most enjoyable way! Discover with us on a llama hike the plants that give Eifel gin its unique aroma. Afterwards, a gin tasting awaits you, served in a hearty and cozy manner at the open stable.

Hike

Our unique event begins and ends right below the Schönecken castle ruins on the eifelnomaden pasture. After an entertaining introduction, during which you’ll get to know the llamas and alpacas and learn how to lead them, we’ll set off on our hike together with our knowledgeable guide.

Our hiking trail leads right into the heart of the Schönecker Schweiz Nature Reserve. Here, juniper and spruce, hazel, rowan, and broom grow. Prickly blackthorns and gnarled apple trees stand in the natural meadows, while moss and ivy entwine around old oak trees: All plants whose aromas are reflected in Eifel Gin. In a fun and engaging way, you’ll learn about the habitat and the many uses of our native flora.

After crossing the Altburg Valley, we climb the southern slopes of the valley, where the slender juniper, with its dark green, prickly leaves and deep blue berries, adds a distinctive touch. We continue on to the Op Ischt plateau. Here, on dry ground, mighty spruce and larch trees stretch their bizarrely twisted branches toward the sky.
A short while later, we enter a beech forest. Moss grows on the shaded sides of the smooth beech trunks. Some trees are entwined with multi-leaved ivy. We take a break in a small clearing and enjoy the peace and quiet in the midst of nature.
Passing a clearing where “Eifelgold” (broom) has taken root alongside the hazel, we head back toward Weide. With a little luck, we’ll find a few of the dark blue, shimmering berries on the blackthorns along the path or an apple in one of the orchard meadows.

At our open stable, Stephan Thomé—the owner and master distiller of the award-winning Euelsberger Distillery—awaits us with his delicious Eifel gin. The master distiller tells us about his initial ideas, the origins and development of Euelsberger, explains the production process, and introduces us to the aromatic world of Eifel gin. Enjoy the gin’s typical Eifel flavors and refuel with delicious regional specialties, while all around you the llamas and alpacas munch on their well-deserved hay or graze in the meadow.
If the weather isn’t quite cooperating, we’ll move the tasting to our open barn or our cozy, furnished construction trailer.

What to bring: Hiking boots (depending on the route; sturdy, treaded soles are recommended), daypack, water bottle, appropriate clothing, and, if necessary, a hat (depending on the season—for sun, rain, or cold)

Participants: at least 6 people; maximum of approximately 14 people

Requirements: average fitness level (total distance approx. 7 km, hiking time approx. 2 hours, elevation gain 140 m). Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed.
