Whether performing pop concerts with Moop Mama, Mark Forster, Jimmy Kelly, and Stefanie Heinzmann or as lead trumpeter in various salsa and big bands – Matthias brings his rich, versatile sound to every performance.

Matthias Schwengler (*1986) stands out as one of the most versatile trumpeters of his generation and has developed a unique and unmistakable sound over the years. He is constantly exploring new sounds, seamlessly blending jazz with complex styles from the Balkans, the Arab world, and Latin America, and creating music with a rich, globally infused character. His ability to integrate these diverse influences sets him apart in the jazz world. After studying at several European music conservatories, Matthias Schwengler currently lives in Cologne, where he leads two of his own bands and is also a member of various other groups.

In his own bands, he has developed a distinctive, chamber-like, dark sound and takes listeners on a journey through different cultures and musical landscapes.

Virtuoso trumpet runs with a Balkan flair meet earthy guitar chords from the worlds of jazz and Americana. The Schwengler/Schipmann duo blends influences from seemingly
ly contrasting musical traditions into an acoustic whole that has never been heard before, yet sounds as if it had been just waiting to be created.

While Matthias Schwengler explored the music of the Balkan region on extended trips there and returned with a quarter-tone trumpet in his luggage, Gero Schipmann devoted himself intensively to American folk and country music after completing his jazz studies in Cologne and London. The fact that the two then ran into each other at a joint big band concert in Nuremberg was pure coincidence, but at the same time marked the beginning of a unique musical collaboration. The two began to combine their diverse influences in a joint project and soon realized that the fusion of these styles brought with it a unique, organic authenticity.

Their first single, “One Last Glimpse,” was released in the spring of 2026 and was quickly embraced by an international audience.
