Neujahrs-Lamawanderung (Gruppentour)

Welcome, New Year! Nature has settled into a state of rest; the days are short and cold. Our winter llama hikes over the New Year’s holidays are an unforgettable experience for young and old alike. Accompanied by the alpacas and llamas—which often hum softly and contentedly—we take a leisurely hike through the nature reserve.

Hike

Right below the Schönecker Burgberg live our woolly llamas and alpacas, who are definitely better equipped for a hike in winter than we humans are. This is also where our very special New Year’s tour begins: a winter hike with our llamas and alpacas, which we wrap up in true tradition with bread on a stick and punch on the llama pasture.

Once we’ve gotten to know our four-legged hiking companions, we’re off. We hike through the wintry Eifel landscape, enjoying the crisp air and the tranquility our llamas radiate. We choose our route depending on the weather conditions; in any case, it leads right into the heart of the Schönecker Schweiz Nature Reserve.

Right at the start, we hike down into the valley of the Altburgbach. Scattered orchards and the slender silhouettes of juniper bushes accompany us. Then we climb the “Op Ischt” ridge and enjoy the sweeping views of the plateau. Later, we venture into the beech forest and arrive at a hidden clearing. Above the Schalkenbach, we continue on narrow paths right through the heart of the forest.

Soon we reach the ancient Celtic refuge, perched atop steep cliffs above the Altburgbach. Then we make our way back down into the valley via a narrow path from the rocky outcrop. Following the Altburgbach, we return to our starting point after about three hours.

The llamas and alpacas have earned an extra portion of hay! But they also watch us curiously as we gather around the brightly glowing fire in the fire pit. We grill bread on sticks and enjoy a warm (non-alcoholic) punch or mulled wine. It’s soon dark outside, while we sit well sheltered under our canopy and bask in the warmth of the fire.

a maximum of one accompanying person may be booked per llama or alpaca guide

What to bring: Hiking boots with sturdy, non-slip treaded soles, daypack, water bottle with water or tea, warm, weatherproof clothing, headwear (warm hat), and gloves (no umbrellas)

Participants: at least 4 people; maximum of approximately 14 people

Requirements: Average physical fitness required (total distance up to 8 km, elevation gain 110 m); minimum age for leading an animal: 10 years. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed.
